In My Kitchen | November 2015

Sourdough loaves are a weekly occurrence in my kitchen. This one was smaller than my usual bake, as I made savoury scrolls at the same time and didn't have enough flour for both. I could have gone and ground more spelt, but I couldn't be bothered. With my love of baking, sometimes I think it is definitely a good thing that I grind my own flour, as if I didn't have that to stop me in my tracks I dread to think of how much flour I would buy, and how much bread there would be in the house!

Speaking of sourdough, I made a double batch of sourdough cinnamon scrolls during the week. They turned out especially nice and I have been enjoying one every morning with my first cup of tea. I blogged the recipe here if you'd like to make some too.

Pictured prior to cooking is home grown pastured pork, layered in a handmade pottery casserole dish with apples, sage, garlic chives, shallots and home grown chicken bone broth.
This was an easy end-of-week meal, and was rather delicious too.
Having our own pork is the best feeling, although I'm not planning on raising any more piglets until next Autumn.
Pickled pork made with the recipe from the Gourmet Farmer Deli Book is also in my kitchen, and let me tell you it is heavenly. I highly recommend you make some too, it is super easy and the rewards are worth it. If you can get your hands on some free-range pastured pork it would be even better.

A bunch of spring blooms, including sweet peas with the most delicious scent. It is my first time growing these sweet flowers and they look and smell so beautiful that I will be planting them every year from now on. Also in the little harvest basket was the very last of the baby potatoes, the remaining little finger carrots and the first of the spring/summer tomatoes. And a little bantam egg from my new Pekins.
Other goodies from the garden making their way into my kitchen are edible flowers, salad greens, edible herbs such as sorrel and hibiscus, and purple salad onions - my first ever!

What is happening in your kitchen this month?
I'm joining in with Celia of Fig Jam & Lime Cordial for the monthly kitchen tour, In My Kitchen. Hop over and have a look, maybe even write your own blog post, or just share a snippet of your happenings in the comments section below.

I hope you have a restful Sunday,
