Cast On: Skep Blanket

With winter here I’m craving all the snuggly, cosy knits. It’s been a while since I knitted a blanket so I’ve decided to cast on a new one.

I love knitting blankets. They are a large project so I automatically know they’re going to be there for a while. And whilst sometimes I am eager to finish my projects quickly, with a blanket WIP it’s different. There’s something comforting about knowing I have a project I can just pick up and work on whenever I feel like it.

So I cast on Skep.

Skep is a modular blanket comprised of hexagons which are knitted separately, one at a time. They’re worked in-the-round, from the outside edge in, and knit up quite quickly.

Once all of the motifs are knitted the blanket is joined together using a three needle bind-off. I quite like this technique and am looking forward to putting the hexies together at the end.

I’m using Peppin 10 for my blanket which is a lovely soft pure Australian merino 10ply. My stack of motifs is growing and I’m really enjoying playing with lots of different colours.

I’ll make sure I share more photos of the blanket as it progresses.

Until next time, happy making!

Sarah
