My Favourite Knits of 2021

At the end of the year I love to take a moment to pause and look back at my knitting projects for the year. I didn’t knit as many things in 2021 has I did last year, mainly I think due to the fact that I’ve taken on larger knitting projects this year.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed each of my makes though, and thought I would share some of my favourites in a blog post. It’s nice to have these little records to look back on over time.

So, in no particular order, my favourite knitting projects of 2021!

One of my most recent projects - a bunch of Mini Christmas Stockings. I loved knitting these and have made a few over the years.

This is the first time I’ve knitted so many at once though. I made 8 stockings over the course of 2 weeks. I branched out from my usual red and cream for this batch and I adore the result. The mustard and cream look so pretty together and give a lovely contemporary feel to these little stockings.

The Winter Star Cowl was the first design I published this year. It was part of the first Bookish Knitter’s Society before being released later as a single pattern.

I loved everything about knitting this cowl. The yarns I used were an absolute delight to touch, creating the softest, squishiest knit. Star Stitch is used all over this cowl and is a stitch I find satisfying to knit.

I love the way the silk glimmers throughout the stitches. This cowl also became a fast favourite in my winter wardrobe.

I didn’t begin knitting these this year, but I finished them in January, so they kind of count as a 2021 project!

These socks are so pretty and were a really fun knit. I love the chunky lace on the cuff and the textured heel. Stripes always make it feel like your knitting is flying, too!

Dolly Cardigan.
This was a bit of an impulse cast on and I loved knitting every minute of it. I don’t have any finished photos to share with you because I haven’t yet knit the button band.

However, I plan to finish this over the Christmas holidays as I really love finishing projects before the end of the year. All that remains for me to do is pick up the stitches down the front of the cardigan and knit the button band, sew on the buttons and darn in the ends. Sounds like a job to be achieved over a cup of tea or two and a plate of biscuits!

Yarn: Bellissimo 4 in Silver with Grass & Mulberry for the contrasts

Another favourite from the year was my Cosy Home Coasters. I had lots of fun designing these. They are delightfully quick due to their small size and I just love the woven texture created with slipped stitches.

And last but certainly not least of my favourites are, of course, more socks!

Honestly, I have trouble keeping track of when I began sock projects. I love knitting them so there is permanently a pair on the go. They are the perfect handbag project and perfect for picking up in between larger projects.

I’ve had three garments on my needles this year which is unusual for me. I think my next cast on might be a shawl as it’s been a little while since I made one.

Next year I plan to continue knitting garments as I am really enjoying building up my handmade wardrobe. There will also be more socks and I’m sure some new designs will make an appearance, too.

What were some of your favourite projects this year?
Do you like to look back at the things you made at the end of the year?

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas & New Year and enjoy lots of making!

Until next time, happy knitting!
