The Bookish Knitter's Society | Volume 5 Is Here!

The Bookish Knitter’s Society is back! For Volume 5 I’ve created Twists of Fae - a lovely cosy beret/beanie!

This is the fifth time the Society KAL has run, and as I know so many of you are seasoned Bookish Knitter’s Society members, I’ve included the info about what we’re making and reading this time immediately below.

If you’re new here (welcome!), scroll on for more details as to what the whole Society entails!

What are we knitting in Volume 5?

I’m so excited to be sharing this pattern with you! For Volume 5 I created a snuggly beret/beanie.

Whether adventuring into the realms of the Fae folk or simply adventuring in your neighbourhood, a cosy beret is always a good idea.

Knit in soft, Australian-made yarn, Twists of Fae features a fun twisting cable pattern that can easily be worked without a cable needle.

A garter stitch brim gives a very stretchy, soft edging before the stitch pattern begins. The pattern repeat is easy to memorise and requires just the right amount of focus - a great project to wind down with as you work the easy twisted stitches.

Twists of Fae can be worn as a slouchy beanie, or blocked on a plate to form a classic beret shape.

Skill Level: Twists of Fae features a simple stitch repeat that uses twisted stitches or mini cables. You can use a cable needle to create these, or work them easily without a cable needle - a video tutorial for this technique is included with the pattern.

What are we reading in Volume 5?

If you feel like an adventure in a snowy land, Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries is the one! Magic, adventure and just a dash of romance feature in this enjoyable tale from Heather Fawcett.

I loved every moment of this book!

“Emily Wilde is good at many things: she is the foremost expert on the study of faeries; she is a genius scholar and a meticulous researcher who is writing the world's first encylopaedia of faerie lore. But Emily Wilde is not good at people

So when she arrives in the hardscrabble village of Hrafnsvik, Emily has no intention of befriending the gruff townsfolk. Nor does she care to spend time with another new arrival: her dashing and insufferably handsome academic rival Wendell Bambleby

But as Emily gets closer to uncovering the secrets of the Hidden Ones - the most elusive of all faeries - she also finds herself on the trail of another mystery: who is Wendell Bambleby, and what does he really want? To find the answer, she'll have to unlock the greatest mystery of all - her own heart.”

If you’re planning on joining the Bookish Knitter’s Society (I do hope so!), I recommend grabbing a copy of the book as soon as you can. Ask at your local library or your favourite bookshop. If shopping online from Australia or New Zealand I can highly recommend Booktopia.

How do I join?

Everyone is welcome and sign-ups are open now - you’ll find several options for joining. At the moment, sign-ups are open on a preorder option with shipping starting from the 25th of March.

Volume 5 officially kicks off on the 12th of April. This is the day we'll all cast on and start reading the first chapter. Like all of our knit-alongs, we're keeping it relaxed with a long timeline.

We'll finish by the 31st of May, after which the knit-along prize will be drawn.

The Bookish Knitter’s Society comes in a box for you to enjoy, which includes the yarn and exclusive knitting pattern, some delicious Australian tea, handmade mushroom stitch marker and special edition A5 art print. I also like to include a bonus recipe in the welcome pack!

There is also an option that doesn’t include yarn and even a Digital Only option, to suit as many people as possible.

You’ll need to organise a copy of the book, no matter which option you choose. Just like last time, I find this works best as you may already have a copy, you might borrow it from your library, or visit your local bookstore.

If you’re shopping online from Australia or New Zealand, I can highly recommend grabbing a copy from Booktopia.

Sign up here.

What is the Society all about?

The Bookish Knitter’s Society indulges my love of all things cosy - reading, knitting and tea. The Society is something everyone is welcome to join.
I’ve combined the best bits of a book club and yarn club to bring you this fun knit-along.

Members of the Society enjoy knitting a new, exclusive pattern whilst we also read a book I’ve selected - just like you would in a book club!

Like all things Say! Little Hen, everyone is welcome in the Society. It’s a fun, laidback and friendly atmosphere. There’s no pressure to finish your project by a certain time - you don’t even have to read the book if it’s not your cup of tea.

Speaking of tea, there’s a hint of that in the Club, too.

We always have so much fun so I’m really excited to kick off the Society for 2024.

Don’t forget to sign-up by choosing one of the options, then come and join us in the Facebook group!

Have questions? Email me, I’m happy to help!

Happy knitting,

Sarah
