The Bookish Knitter's Society - Volume 2

The Bookish Knitter’s Society is back! For Volume 2 I’ve chosen a Cosy Home theme, with two patterns to knit and two books to choose from (or read both!).

What is the Society all about?

The Bookish Knitter’s Society indulges my love of reading, knitting and stationery and is something everyone is welcome to join.
I’ve combined the best bits of a book club and yarn club to bring you this fun knit along.

Members of the Society enjoy knitting a new, exclusive pattern whilst we also read a book I’ve selected - just like you would in a book club!

Like all things Say! Little Hen, everyone is welcome in the Society. It’s a fun, laidback and friendly atmosphere. There’s no pressure to finish your project by a certain - you don’t even have to read the book if it’s not your cup of tea.

Speaking of tea, there’s a hint of that in the Club, too.

Last time everyone had so much fun so I’m very excited to kick off Volume 2 again!

How do I join?

Everyone is welcome and sign-ups open now - you’ll find several options for joining.
We officially begin on the 1st of December and so that we have time to enjoy both books and our knitting, I’m extending the KAL over the Australian summer holidays. We finish on the 6th of February.

The Bookish Knitter’s Society comes in a box for you to enjoy, which includes the yarn and exclusive knitting patterns, some delicious Australian tea and beautiful Australian-made stationery. I also like to include a bonus recipe in the welcome pack!
There is also an option that doesn’t include yarn and even a Digital Only option, to suit as many people as possible.

No matter which option you choose, you’ll need to organise a copy of the book yourself. Just like last time, I find this works best as you may already have a copy, you might borrow it from your library, or you might visit your local bookstore.

What are we knitting in Volume 2?

The home was on my mind for Volume 2 and I had fun creating not one but two patterns. The Cosy Home Collection focuses on textured stitches to create cosy homewares with a contemporary feel.

Have fun with slipped stitch texture while you knit a snuggly hot water bottle and set of coasters.

Both of these patterns are easy and enjoyable to knit. If you’re particularly new to knitting, start with the coasters.

What are we reading in Volume 2?

I’ve chosen two books for this round - choose between them or enjoy both! Everyone enjoyed Rhys Bowen’s Her Royal Spyness series so much last time I’ve selected the newest edition to the series.
God Rest Ye, Gentlemen is 2021’s Christmas edition to the series, and as we’re so close to Christmas, I thought it would be a fun one. Her Royal Spyness is a murder mystery series set in England in the 1930s. These books are light yet enjoyable with a great host of characters.

For book #2 I’ve chosen a new-to-me series by Australian author Jackie French. Miss Lily’s Lovely Ladies is the first book in a series of 5.
I’ve begun reading the first book and am enjoying it so far. It’s in a different tone to Her Royal Spyness, centred around World War 1, it explores the role of women during the war.
This book isn’t as light as Her Royal Spyness but so far hasn’t gotten too heavy; I’m enjoying it for something different.

If you’re planning on joining the Bookish Knitter’s Society (I do hope so!), I recommend grabbing a copy of the book you’ll be reading (why not read both? I’m going to!) as soon as you can.
I ordered my copies in Australia from BookTopia. You can also ask at your local library or your favourite book shop.

Don’t forget to sign-up by choosing one of the three options, then come and join us in the Facebook group!

Happy knitting,

Sarah
